Graduate Students. Applications to start the PhD in the fall of 2026 are closed. Graduate students interested in the lab may apply through the UC Berkeley Materials Science Department, or through the UC Berkeley-UCSF Graduate Program in Bioengineering. Postdoctoral Fellows. The Messersmith Group is always on the lookout for outstanding postdoctoral candidates in areas of interest to the lab, currently regenerative medicine, drug delivery, aging & rejuvination and bioinspired materials. A PhD in engineering, chemistry, biological sciences, cell biology, or a related field is required. Independence, creativity, passion for research, and good communication skills are essential. Although specific project positions are filled on an as-needed basis, exceptionally well-qualified candidates are encouraged to apply at any time.
