Sally and Kayla win Athena Award for Double Shelix Podcast!
March 8, 2019 – Sally Winkler of the Messersmith Lab and Kayla Wolf of the Kumar Lab won the prestigious Athena Award for Next Generation Engagement at an awards ceremony on the UC Berkeley campus.
As co-hosts of the podcast Double Shelix, Sally and Kayla are passionate advocates for women in STEM, inclusive science, and training new scientists in mentorship, leadership, and communication. Through Double Shelix, they have built a platform to highlight the accomplishments of women in STEM at all career stages.
At last count, the podcast has received over 34,000 listens from >40 countries across 22 episodes since its launch in 2017, and Sally and Kayla have spearheaded university partnerships and secured grants to promote their podcast. Guests have included women in STEM from all career stages discussing their research, passions, fears, and advice.
